The eyes just look like how they look, because of the shades of grey. That's the magic. So I use the following technique for shades as already used in the skull studies. Paint a ground/basic color under your lines. Use a darker grey and put the shadows on their places. After that use a brighter grey and put the lights on their places. The relation 1:1, 1:2 and 1:4 are not the real relations of ground color, shades and lights. I just wanted to explain how much basic color you use, how much dark grey and how much bright grey approximately. [Hint]: For soft transitions use a soft brush e.g. the Adobe Photoshop standard brush set hardness 0%.
